Want to Go Fully Custom?
Perhaps you've searched and searched and cannot find the exact style, or you heard about a custom engagement ring and know that is what you would like - we are here to help! Whether it means pulling together elements and welding them safely together, or using our CAD artist to draw up your vision and help bring that to fruition, we LOVE helping you make it custom!
This was a particularly fun one!
Our customer wanted a two-tone, "vine" style engagement ring - done! He already had a drawing ready that we could make alterations on and send to our CAD artist. They also wanted to use a family diamond for the center stone, and wanted purple accents - so we suggested sapphire (and happened to have a perfectly sized, matching pair!). And...voila! A very unique, beautiful ring. Come in to see what we can create for you! |
The Full Wedding SetWhether you want to start with just the engagement ring, or would like to purchase or design the whole set at the same time, we can help.
This comes up many times when the wedding is quickly approaching, if this is an upgrade to her wedding set, or if the ring is curved/designed in a way that may need special attention to create a "mate." |
The Center Stone
The big question - the part of the engagement ring that often determines budget. The center stone!
The overwhelmingly most common & traditional center stone is diamond. There is a lot to learn about diamonds, but we can reduce it down to the Four Cs: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat. Cut: With so many shapes to choose from, it can be helpful to figure out which ones your fiancee-to-be likes best (round, oval, princess, cushion, emerald, etc.). But cut is about more than shape! Stones are graded for the cut (how well the stone is cut compared to ideal), polish (cleanliness of cuts - how clear the facets are), and symmetry (is the stone even from side to side). Color: The most desirable diamonds begin at colorless (DEF), to near colorless (GHI), and then tints of brown or yellow become more visible (J & beyond). A lot of this depends on preference for you & your soon-to-be fiancee! |
Clarity: This refers to the number and size of "inclusions" in the stone. Inclusions are any visible impurity (there are many causes!) and all stones are graded at 10x magnification. The range starts at flawless (F), internally flawless (IF), very very small inclusions (VVS1-2), very small inclusions (VS1-2), small inclusions (SI1-2), and included (I1-3). Only the I range is supposed to be visible with the naked eye.
Carat: Most centers for engagement rings start at 1/4 carat and go up from there. (Note: carat with a "c" refers to the weight of stones, while karat with a "k" refers to the purity of gold.) CAUTION: There is only so much you can learn online! We are firm believers that you really need to see a variety of stones to gain experience into what you prefer so that we can help you choose a center of which you are proud. |

"Thank you Gold'N Carats!! I am so glad we decided to pop in on a whim. Lucinda and Jenna are such down to earth, wonderful and genuine people. My original wedding ring was stolen and both women took their time to help me with finding my heart again...Lucinda was not going to let me choose just 'any ol' ring,' she wanted me to be sure, in my heart of hearts that the ring I wanted was the one that made me feel loved...It was hard for me to fight back tears of joy.
I have never in my life been made to feel like the only special customer in the world, like I was with Gold'N Carats. Platinum service without the 'snobby' service. I LOVE this place and will always recommend them. Thank you Lucinda and Jenna from the bottom of my heart for what you did for me, for us." -Joelle |
